Gregory and Jessica James have spent decades building successful careers in the creative world. Together, they co-founded and published their own magazines, which earned recognition in the industry. Gregory is a world-renowned, award-winning commercial photographer, primarily known for his fitness photography, but with a diverse portfolio that spans fashion, advertising, and more. He worked with major brands and Fortune 500 companies and served as the chief photographer for over 20 magazines.
After 30 years in the industry, Gregory hit a point of physical and mental burnout. The constant travel and pressure of the job took a toll on him, and with a growing family, it was clear the lifestyle wasn’t sustainable. While Gregory loved his work, he realized it was time for a change. Jessica, a world-renowned makeup artist, food stylist (at the level of a chef), and producer, had a successful career of her own and had supported Gregory’s photography work for years. After having kids, they traveled the world for a while with their nanny, but once the kids got to a certain age, they decided it was best for Jessica to stay home with them. Everything they do is for the kids.
Gregory’s semi-retirement from photography was driven by the need for balance, and now he carefully selects the photoshoots he takes on. He’s not fully retired but is selective about the work he does.
The decision to open SideHustle Mowing came from a place of wanting something simpler — a way to stay active and close to home, but also build something meaningful. Gregory always loved lawn care as a hobby, and when Jessica suggested they turn it into a full-time business, it was an easy choice. Together, they made the move to a farmhouse in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas, leaving their larger house in Florida behind, though they still maintain property there and split their time between both places. They were drawn to the slower pace of life and the chance to work together while raising their two kids.
Today, Gregory and Jessica are running SideHustle Mowing, raising their two children, and making the most of their simpler life in the Ozarks. They’ve also started a YouTube channel to document their lawn care journey, share tips, and give viewers an inside look at their life. The most important thing to them is family. That’s the only thing that matters to them.
